Nancy was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Yes, a city girl! In her youth she spent many happy hours designing doll clothes and helping her mother make quilts from salvaged fabrics. She especially remembers the old wool suits of her dad’s that were cut and made into warm quilts (those were her favorites to use on bitter cold nights in Kansas City). She was 8 or 9 years old when her neighbor guided her in making her very first quilt! It was pieced on a treadle sewing machine that had been converted to electric. From these humble beginnings she was hooked on sewing and quilting! She graduated from college in Clothing and Textiles and began her journey. In one of her college classes she even made a formal with a quilted skirt! “Fancy Nancy” was her nickname from then on. She has made hundreds of costumes for dancers and sewn clothes for her 8 children and husband (remember the double knit leisure suits?) Sewing and quilting are her number one pastime. Her brick and mortar store, Nancy’s Quilts, started in 2005 and is located in rural Ada County, Idaho. It is a home based business with a classroom, a Christmas Room where Christmas fabrics are available all year. It also has a room dedicated to children’s themed fabrics. Also many blender fabrics and flannels! Oh flannels, we love flannel here. There are so many from “adult” to “children” to “Christmas”. We invite you stop in and see us.
